Event Description:
Witness the struggles of African Americans living in our nation’s capital, as they mobilize against development that threatens to displace them from their homes. Featuring Dr. Sabiyha Prince.

In this presentation, Dr. Sabiyha Prince will discuss how some Washington D.C. residents are mobilizing and using their community voice and power to fight against displacement due to real estate development that threatens to gentrify their neighborhoods. Dr. Prince will also lead a discussion of the implications of what is happening in our nation’s capital for Indianapolis, where neighborhoods located adjacent to our burgeoning downtown face similar threats. What lessons can we learn in Indianapolis about how to protect the rights of long-term community residents while still improving our neighborhoods?
